I recommend that Little Falls Planning and Zoning Committee and City Council consider passing an ordinance allowing tiny or small homes on the dozens of non-conforming lots the city owns. Brainerd City Council voted in June 2014 to allow small homes of 500 square feet to be built on non-conforming lots(less than 7000 square feet). The forward thinking idea was recommended by the Brainerd Planning Commission. Brainerd Planning Commission promoted the idea to encourage building on vacant lots.
Many seniors, singles or others wishing to live a simpler, less cluttered lifestyle might wish to build similar homes in Little Falls. Whenever empty lots have homes on them, the city benefits from the tax dollars that those homes generate.
I hope others agree that this would be an added benefit for our town. If you do, please call your current mayor and councilors as well as your planning committee members. Councilor Frank Gosiak and Councilor Jeremy Hanfler are current members of the planning committee. Their phone numbers are published in the Little Falls phonebook. Give them a jingle.
As mayor, I will promote and encourage others to adopt this idea.
It is a trend of the future and will bring in new residents to our town.
