City of Pierz, Minnesota has UNCONSTITUTIONAL SIGN ORDINANCE???? Take a look for yourself.
Now I am not an attorney, but I did learn a few things about sign ordinances over the past 4 years. This ordinance looks unconstitutional to me. It disallows free speech on a persons own curtilage, except 3 times a year and only a temporary sign, if I am reading this correctly. I would suggest that the City of Pierz consider adopting the Bloomington sign ordinance, which allows off premise (with permission of the property owner) garage sale/boutique/church supper/and other community events several times per year. The City of Royalton is experiencing what it is like to enforce their restrictive sign ordinance(based on Hopkins model ordinance). They are in trouble, because they have allowed at least one illegal off premise billboard for years, and one homeowner that is adjacent to this billboard is not taking it. Mark Schraut has hired a St. Cloud attorney to defend his property and force the City of Royalton to get rid of the illegal now digital electronic billboard. I sure hope he wins. I wonder who is Pierz city attorney. They might want to get on this. Just sayin.
